Electric Picnic and Dublin
It’s been a few days since heading to Electric Picnic and i am sitting in the hostel in Temple Bar, Dublin writing this on one of the computers in the common room. As i have a total of 30 minutes to do this, it will be a bit rushed and light on.
I have also given up on writing and submitting posts via my iphone as it cost me £20 for 4 days access on my phone whilst at the festival…possibly due to trying to upload photos all weekend, but i thought it would have lasted a bit longer.
so, Electric Picnic. The weekend was amazing and i got to see many full sets over the 3 days. the festival starts around lunch time and goes til 4am everyday. so, if you have the notion of going to bed early be prepared for the doof going off in the forest about 50 meters away to keep you up. luckily, we had earplugs and a good dose of jetlag to counteract the thumping bass rumbling across the field.
Highlights were, Sinead Oconner, Willy Mason, PJ Harvey, Interpol, John Grant, Midlake, Arcade Fire, Beirut, Big Audio Dynamite, Underworld, James Walsh of Starsailor(which was a huge surprise as i was onroute to another stage to meet damon when i heard “Silence is easy” being played on the piano and ran like a mad man upon realising what my ears were hearing) and of course PULP!
it was a huge weekend…oh and i missed Chemical Brothers as i was knackered after Arcade Fire and could only just get myself across the field back to the tent.
The food at the festival was decent and they were giving away free fruit! Do you remember as a kid how apples used to taste? well, these irish red apples they had were the juiciest, tastiest apples i’d eaten.
we ended up donating our tent to the festival ie: we left it set up there in the hope that it would get packed up, cleaned and passed on to charity. We had no other use for it.
We got back to Dublin yesterday and have done some more exploring, however today we jumped on a bus (booked months ago) and headed to an ancient stone age burial chamber in the Boinne Valley. This man made mound is over 5000 years old and is the only one in the world that is still completely in-tact. It was amazing. we have lots of photo’s which i’ll attampt to transfer when i get a bit more time. we also went to the ancient site of Tara, which was the capital of this land before it became Ireland. Tara is situated on top of a hill in the same valley with 360 degree views. All that is there now are some mounds and trenches…but still a great experience hearing all the history.
ok. time’s up. will send more in a couple of days.

I am still getting used to this Tumblr thing
Since accidentally posting too early the previous post, I have managed to write another 4 paragraphs only to clumsily delete it all. TWICE!!
Attempt #3
we arrived in Dublin yesterday morning after 36hours of cramped but comfortable seats, food, movies and airport terminals.
We left Brisbane on wednesday for Sydney where we were to transfer to the international terminal and catch our Etihad flight to Dublin via Abu Dhabi. The first surprise of the trip was being served lunch on the Virgin Australia flight by name. “Mr. Daye, your beef and mustard wrap is here. What drink would you like?” pardon? We both looked at each other and said this is going to be a great holiday.
We had so much food offered (and gladly accepted) on the next leg to Abu Dhabi that we felt 3kg’s heavier upon disembarking.
However, before we started to pile on the kilos, Damon must have packed his mischief aura as he got swiped for explosives in BNE & got frisked (felt-up) in SYD by the guards. He gets all the fun.
So, we made it Dublin early yesterday morning and decided it best we stay awake til at least 9pm to get the old clock synched up. We wandered around o’connell and Henry streets on the north side where we had our first shit coffee of the trip. After getting over that we wandered back to temple bar and onto grafton st and the Molly Malone statue to Stephens green square and to merrion square where Oscar Wilde grew up. His likeness is perched on a rock across from his home in the park, complete with a somewhat withered rose below his nose.
At this point the feet were weary and the stomach was ready for more food so we headed back to Temple bar to a fish n chip shop and sat down to a MASSIVE plate of potatoes and cod. The stomach was not exactly happy with this choice and at around 6pm the rest of the body gave up and beckoned for bed. The intention was to lay down for an hour. We awoke just after midnight wide awake. We both managed to force another few hours in to try and regulate our body clocks. So far so good. -
As I type this on the 8:30 am train to Portlaoise (pronounced Port-loysh), grey-stone buildings likely older than Australia wiz past. My concentration is constantly being compromised.
We are on our way to Electric Picnic at Stradbally Hall, approximately 90 minutes south-west of Dublin for what will be possibly the greatest music festival experience of both our lives. But first, getting here. -
I thought these guys were meant to be illusive?…and small.

Well, we made it to Dublin. Will update more later tonight.
